The NZ health system is a mixed public-private system.
A modern health system is a complex machine with many moving parts. While even the best health systems struggle to meet the needs of all, the NZ health system is only middle of the road and could certainly be improved. Being a public-private system it is inherently inequitable. Those that can afford private health insurance get a prompt and premium service, while the rest get the waiting list.
