In this post I have placed documents relating to the Environmental Monitoring Program (EMP) associated with the Matatā wastewater project.

I have taken a serious interest in the Matatā wastewater situation and the results from the EMP that WDC initiated in 2021. The subject matter is right up my alley.
In the first half of 2024 I started compiling in a single document all of the results that had been shared with council on the Matatā EMP. These results were shared over many years usually in the form of Powerpoint presentations.
I then approached the science Leader at the New Zealand Institute for Public Health and Forensic Science (PFS Science) formerly known as Environmental Science Research (ESR) and a foremost expert in this area for a peer review of my report and he agreed. It would have cost nothing.
Below is my review of the WDC EMP that includes results available at the time of writing.
‘We at ESR have been doing the Fecal Source Tracking analysis that is in your report – which its not blowing smoke at you to say your report is impressive.’ Environmental Science team leader at Public Health & Forensic Sciences, Christchurch Science Centre.
Here is the ESR 2012 report on the Matatā environmental monitoring covering data available at the time. This report was made available to me by the ESR science leader.
In July of 2024 I formally requested WDC peer-review the results of the EMP after having discussed the matter with councilors. As part of standard WDC processes a Request For Proposal was prepared.
Three consultant reports by prepared for WDC by Pattle Delamore Partners, Streamlined Environmental and NIWA in order that a peer review could be undertaken.
It would not have been possible to undertake a peer review of material contained in many Powerpoint presentations to council over many years.
Here is the ESR peer review of these three reports:
